From March 10 to 13, 2015, the flagship course on Health Economics and Financing for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) was held in Panama City. This course was organized by Health Finance and Governance (HFG) and funded by the United States Agency for
International Development (USAID). The course brought together more than 40 representatives from the Ministries of Health and Finance of the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, and Peru.

The coordinator of the CRITERIA Network, Ursula Giedion, gave a module of the course focused on the relevance of Health Benefit Plans (HBP) in the current context of the health systems as a mechanism to guarantee equity in the provision of services, while preserving the sustainability of the systems.
