Having a greater variety of medicines does not always translate into better patient care or a reduction in the financial and epidemiological burden for health systems. Policies on medicines have to ensure the sustainability of said systems, to control the exaggerated prices of new medicines and for the relevance of their use. However, for these policies to be effective they must be based on evidence (available on web platforms such as DIME) that consider both their clinical purposes and the financial viability of the systems.
